VCK02 exhaust check valves are typically used to help prevent air from rushing  backwared through the pump during powered down. They are named one-way  valve or non-return valve, Typically installed on the exhaust side of the pump,  they can prevent oil back streaming upon pump shut down or failure.

VCK02 check valves with a spring-loaded O-ring sealed disc are for installation in any orientation.
